Soft Ground / Hard Edge

Burning-series
50 x 42 cm
Cogon grass / inshu kozo paper & graphite / color pencil
burnt (manually) with soldering iron.
2020 – ongoing

These works are part of my burning series; a series where I burn with a soldering iron into thin Japanese paper, folding the ‘leaves’ / half burnt circles into a relief. At the basis of these works lies – as in nearly all of my work – a grid; the basic structure of the piece. Placing circles in a repetitive structure, like the base-line or the chords of a musical score.

By burning through this grid – and wanting to break through the self-created structure, I aim to create a melody that is capable of changing throughout the day with the change of (context-) light.
